THE CLINICAL JUDGMENT PROJECT
The Clinical Judgment Project is research based on Dr. Harris's dissertation, entitled Clinical Judgment Faith Bias: The Impact of Faith and Multicultural Competence on Clinical Judgment. This research investigates clinical judgment faith bias, a theoretical bias for clinicians to make more pathological judgments for clients with socially deviant faith (high religiousness or spirituality) than for otherwise identical clients with socially normative faith (low religiousness or spirituality). In addition to publishing a dissertation in ProQuest Dissertations and Theses, this research has already resulted in one journal article – a manuscript titled “Clinical Judgment Faith Bias: Unexpected Findings for Psychology Research and Practice,” recently published in the journal Professional Psychology: Research and Practice. We are currently working on a second publication titled “Clinical Judgment and Religion: A Content Analysis of the Psychology Research Literature,” which is the largest content analysis ever of the literature on clinical judgment of religion in psychology. We are also currently developing a series of Muslim vignettes to examine clinical judgment faith bias towards Muslim clients.
